The subject of the thesis involves animated infographics. In this study, the technology and development behind animated infographics are given in addition to the current design methods used in videos. Furthermore, the sound, music, narrative features they have and related problems are discussed.
According to studies, the rising number of infographic videos in digital media proportionally brings along problems in design. It is possible to deal with these problems only by approaching, studying and discussing the concepts and definitions of the subject accurately.
In this respect, the concepts that enable us to put our creations into practice in digital media are discussed and defined in the first part of this thesis, which also includes topics such as when infographics design is used and becomes a necessity, in other words, its scope. As animated infographics and motion design are commonly confused, the first part also includes this problem and data visualization applications are studied through its samples in this path. In the same part, the development and importance of animated infographics are addressed illustratively.
In the second part, the elements that compose animated infographics which are defined in the first part are discussed. These elements are studied under titles as motion, timing, visualization, typography and sound. The second part focuses on how these elements are handled in animated infographics, which need do they satisfy and their effects on receiver perception rather than what they primarily are.
In the third part, the most important step of animated infographics, meaning and narrative, is discussed. Choosing subject's underlying message, its relation to other elements, content of the message it conveys, its interaction with the target audience, its reduction and redirection are given in detail.
In the fourth part, areas of effect and methods used to keep the interest of the audience alive are mentioned. The effects of motion, color, form, camera and sound on the audience are elaborated on through examples. At the end of the part, an animated infographics video is analyzed in its methods for narration.
In the fifth part, where types of animated infographics are classified according to how they are created, examinations on selected samples and the problems in these samples are defined and the areas and reasons of use for various animation techniques are discussed.
In the sixth and the last part, the data and information related to the application of the thesis are listed in detail. Next, how this data was analyzed, how the target audience were designated and how the habits and socio-demographic status of the target audience are determined and in the light of this profiling, how it is redacted and visualized are discussed and the creative process of applied design elements are explained.
