Turkey has become a welcoming country for mass immigration since 2011 while it was mostly a country with emigrants living abroad. Based upon the civil war in Syria, many different ethnic groups living in the region were exposed to violence and have had to migrate to Tukey. It is for that reason, Turkey has become the country hsoting the highest proportion of Syrian refugees.Turkmens also take place among the groups that has migrated to Turkey in that period. In this thesis, the process that Turkmens has experienced before and after the forced migration to Ankara is researched. Turkmens has been chosen as the research group, because of the importance of this issue from the point of Turkey.
This thesis consists of two main sections; theoretical and pratical, Migration, notions about the cultural processes after migration approaches to the international migration, forced migrations, Syrian Government, the Turkmen existence in Turkey and migrations from Syrian from the theoretical section of this thesis. As for the fieldwork section of this thesis, it is analyzed that the experiences during the war, and the social, cultural, economic conditions and problems after te migration of Turkmens that has lived through the forced migration from Syrian to Ankara. Besides, the bonds of Turkmen interview groups with Turkey, the factors that effect their country choice during the migration, the problems that they experienced after the migration and their opinions about future are tried to reveal within the frame of the data obtained from semi-structured interviews and focus group discussions.
The main results obtained from this research may be summarized as follows: Linguistic and cultural ties have a serious affect on the country choice of Turkmens that have migrated from Syria to Turkey because of the civil war. Network of relationships has potently effected the beginning and continuation of Turkmen migrations to Turkey. Due to the continuatiın of a different process than the predicted migrations in the international migration theories, the economic and social condition of Turkmens has regressed. They experienced difficulties while dealing with the problems that occured in the process of forced migration. It is revealed that Turkmens want to turn back to Syria, though they are desperate about the ending of civil war in Syria, and they perceive Turkey as the second homeland.
