Kalıcı Kolostomisi Olan Bireylerde Stoma Torbasına Konulan Lavanta Esansiyel Yağının Kokunun Giderilmesine, Yaşam Kalitesine ve Stoma Uyumuna Etkisi

This research was carried out as a randomized controlled experimental study to evaluate the effect of lavender essential oil put in ostomy bag, to eliminate odor because of uncontrolled gas and stool outlet, quality of life and adjustment to ostomy on permanent colostomy patients, between November 28, 2016 and February 6, 2018 in Ankara Atatürk Training and Research Hospital and Dr. Abdurrahman Yurtaslan Ankara Oncology Training and Research Hospital General Surgery Clinics. Fifteen patiens for the experimental group and 15 patiens for the control group were included in the study sample. After tested for allergy, data collection forms and scales were applied to experimental group patients whom to be opened permanent colostomy at least three months before, suggestions about gas and odor decreasing measures were given by information form, and they were trained in the direction of training brochure about using lavender essential oil in ostomy bag. Second interview was done in the direction of data collection forms and scales to experimental group patients who used lavender essential oil in ostomy bag for a month at the end of the month. Patients in the control group were interviewed in the direction of data collection forms and scales, and suggestions about gas and odor decreasing measures were given via information form. Second interview was done in the direction of data collection forms and scales after a month. In this study, lavender essential oil was used which exists in the market commercially. The data were assessed by number, percentage, mean, standart deviation, Unpaired t-test, Paired t-test and Chi square. There were no statistically significant differences between the experimental and control groups in the study according to their demographical characteristics; physical problems like gas, leakage, sleep, skin problems and bath, and psychosocial problems like social relationships, sexuality, worship, isolate oneself, body image distortion, fear of unknown, loss of control, loss of self-confidence and difficulty in coping at the end of a month (p>0,05). It was determined that experimental group patients who used lavender essential oil in ostomy bag were statistically significantly less experienced odor from physical problems versus control group patients; had higher quality of life and ostomy adjustment then control group patients (p<0,05). It is considered that this study will contribute to the other studies which will be carried out on the different patient groups and suggested to perform on patients who has different types of ostomies.
