Öztürk, F., Assesment of Trunk Muscle Endurance, Static Standing Balance and Quality of Life in Individuals with Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis following Posterior Instrumentation Fusion, Hacettepe University, Health Sciences Institute, Master Thesis in Orthopedic Physiotheraphy and Rehabilitation Program, Ankara, 2018. The aim of this study was to investigate trunk muscle endurance, static standing balance and health ralated quality of life in patients with posterior instrumentation fusion (PIF) surgery. Twenty patients aged 10-18 years who underwent PIF surgery past 1-3 years and 20 healthy subjects were included in the study. Lumbar range of motion were assessed with universal goniometer flexibility were assessed with tape measure, trunk extensor muscle endurance was assessed with Biering-Sorensen test, trunk flexor muscle endurance was assessed with Kraus-Weber test, postural sway was assessed with Stabilometer, and health related quality of life was assessed with the Scoliosis Research Society-22 revised (SRS-22r) scale. The Short Form-12 (SF-12) questionnaire was also used to compare the quality of life in both groups. Lumbar range of motion, flexibility, trunk extensor and flexor muscle endurance, and physical component score of SF-12 scale were lower in patients than healthy controls (p <0.001). Postural sway with eyes open and eyes closed conditions and mental component of SF-12 scores were also similar in both groups (p> 0.05). According to the SRS-22r scale findings of individuals with AIS, it was seen that all subparametric survival qualities were good within themselves. In conclusion, before and after PIF surgery, individuals with AIS are seem to need assesment programs include trunk muscle endurance, flexibility, and postural stability following surgery.
