Özet
The report titled “Cultural Interpretations of Art Practice as an Object of Knowledge” investigates the relationship of the notion of culture the art and the elements that have composed culture and art in the course of the human history with focus on the changes in the contents of these two notions in interrelation with each other. The report found that cultural interpretations constitute an active domain in today’s art, and that artists draw, nowadays, upon cultural interpretations as a widely-used strategy.
Narrative of the past refers to a field of interpretation of importance in conceiving the present. Considering the course of overlapping historical eras in terms of chronologic data, the first section examines the social realities and knowledge organisation, which includes a compilation partly including art practices as well. This compilation draws on the notion of culture as an analysis of all of the historical processes. The main strategy of this section is that cultural interpretations constitute an effective method in understanding art, in which the evolution of the notion is examined from the raw culture to the introduction of the notion into the literature and further to the twentieth century in the light of changing social dynamics. This section further investigates the development of knowledge organisation and thought practices as causes of widening of the notional contents of culture, also looking into its reflections on the domain of art.
The second section examines how today’s art practices are formed through cultural rhetoric, attempting to provide an insight into the strategies artists use in the framework of such rhetoric and into the latest profile of art on the basis of an analysis of the globalisation process. The section also investigates the art policies in today’s world on the basis culturalism policies as cultural initiatives triggered by globalisation and anthropological theory of art. This section further discusses, based on examples, how artists are fed from culture as a main strategy and how they interpret the cultural domain in their work and suggests, on the basis of artistic works, how we can go beyond the cultural domain. The section also deals with the artists involved with “the book as an object” as a cultural structure.
The practices examined in the third section are those that are reflected in objects that throw the notion of culture into relief and the experiences of such objects, interpreting the objects and notions with historical background in the context of personal culture and criticising the thought practices which build up culture. The section questions the global elements of culture on the local scale and discusses them in terms of their contents, both in formal and philosophical perspective. While integrating the justification of the cultural knowledge into the domain of experiences through practices, the report attempts to create an idea as a form, different media and narrative in an approach that goes beyond existing practices.
