Kültürel Süreklilik Bağlamında Kırkpınar’ın Yansıttığı Dünya Görüşü Üzerine
Özet
This study aims to discuss Kırkpınar's worldview as a cultural continuity which has been
in prevalence for more than six centuries. Based on related literature review, including an
field study and research in The Ottoman Archives of the Prime Ministry, this study also
contains face-to-face interview methods made with different representators of the
tradition, namely Kırkpınar agas, pehlivans (wrestlers), cazgırs (announcers), shawm and
drums crew chief and spectators.
In the first chapter, wrestling is held as a competition sport together with its inherent trait
of being a game. In this context, its appearance in Asia and Middle East geography as
well as Turkish culture in historical records, in addition to its institutionalization process
during Ottoman Turks era is discussed.
In the second chapter, the historical background of Edirne and the historical development
process of Kırkpınar wrestling, which is made and shaped within the boundaries of
Edirne, is given.
In the third chapter, determinations from the point of view of Kırkpınar Agas, pehlivans,
cazgirs, shawm and drums and spectators, which have provided the continuity of
Kırkpınar and which have come together and constituted the idea of Kırkpınar as a whole
in a communication environment, were included.
In the fourth chapter, the concept of worldview is discussed, and how Kırkpınar oil
wrestling reflects a worldview is emphasized.
