Family functions and marriage satisfaction were examined from their perspective. Husbands and children of the participants were excluded. The Marriage Life Scale was used to measure the satisfaction of the marriage of the women participating in the survey, the Family Assessment Scale to measure family functions and the Personal Information Form prepared to reach the information about them. Only the Problem Solving, Communication, Roles and Affective Involvement subscales of the Family Assessment Scale were used.
The study has a descriptive character in which the general screening model based on quantitative methodology is used. Mann Whitney U Test, Kruskal Wallis H Test, Spearman Correlation were used in the data analysis. The socio-demographic characteristics of the women were examined in the study. The effects of these characteristics on marriage satisfaction and family functions were examined. The relationship between marriage satisfaction and family functions were also examined. Findings indicated that, more than half of the women were found to have a healthy problem-solving function, almost half of the women were found to have a healthy Communication function, and one-third of the women were found to have a healthy Roles function and one-in-ten of the women were found to have a healthy Affective Involvement function. In this context, it has been found that women have the healthiest family functions in Problem Solving function and most unhealthy family functions in Affective Involvement. The demographic characteristics of women participating in the research were examined in relation to marriage satisfaction and family functioning. As a result of the findings, it was found that there is no relationship between the demographic characteristics of the women and their spouses (education levels, working status, ownership status in the home, types of marriage, duration of marriage, important elements of marriage according to the views of women, disability status in women's families) in Problem Solving, Communication, Roles, and Affective Involvement Functions with Marriage Satisfaction.
Besides this, the marriage satisfaction of those who participated in the research differs according to their marriage age, marriage type, housing type. Findings have been made that the women in the lower socio-economic level are married at a younger age, with religious marriage together with the official marriage, and in the type of apartment house increasing their Marriage Satisfaction. It has been found that the situation in which women benefit from psychological services for their families reduces marriage satisfaction.
It has been seen that the number of children in the families of women, the presence of someone with chronic health problems in the family and experiencing mental illness increases their healthy functioning in the Affective Involvement sub-dimension. It has been found that women who can always share their wishes / problems with their spouses, women who know their wives enough, women who are happy with marriage, women who do not think about marriage show more healthy functions in Problem Solving, Communication and Roles sub dimensions. At the same time, Marriage Satisfaction was higher. It was determined that the alcohol problem of women and their spouses affects Problem Solving, Communication, Roles functions and Marriage Satisfaction negatively. At the same time, it has been determined that if a woman has been punished for any offense, it negatively affects Roles function.
There was a negative relationship between marriage satisfaction and family functioning of women. This means that the satisfaction of marriage increases with the tendency of healthiness in family functions. And on the contrary, with the increase in marriage satisfaction, the tendency of family functions to be healthy is rising.
According to the results of the study, the social risks (social risks identified in the Personal Information Form) of the low socio-economic families were found to affect the marriage satisfaction and family functioning of the women. It increases the importance of psychosocial interventions as well as socio-economic support to family members. This research has been concluded with suggestions for strengthening marital relations and family functions in families in low socio-economic level in the direction of findings.
