Generally, in many languages interrogation is been expressed by certain linguistic approaches such as interrogatives, word order, interrogative affixes and stress. In forming interrogation, modern Uyghur has also different ways, which are interrogative affixes, stress and interrogatives. In this paper, the interrogation in modern Uyghur is mainly discussed.
In the first chapter, some general knowledge about Uyghurs and Uyghur language is put forth. In the second chapter, the concept of interrogation, the interrogative affixes in modern Uyghur, interrogatives are studied, and previous studies on this topic are accounted. In the third chapter, the formation of interrogative sentences in modern Uyghur is discussed; interrogative sentences are classified according to structural characteristics and explained by giving examples. In the fourth chapter, the interrogative sentences in modern Uyghur are categorized into literal or rhetoric interrogative in semantical point of view. The most essential function of interrogative sentences is questioning and by which earning information, however, because of the internal and external effects during the communication, the meaning of the same interrogative sentence can be different depending on the context. In this part, the interrogative sentences taken from an Uyghur novel are classified and studied in light of their meaning in the text.
In the fifth chapter, the formation of interrogation in modern Uyghur and Turkish are compared by giving specific examples; differences and similarities in forming interrogation in these two Turkic languages are put forward.
