The terms loneliness and isolation have always been present in human life throughout history. As a person who can feel and think, humans have experienced and understood the state of loneliness and transformed it into art. This situation has revealed the freedom to express the concepts of loneliness and isolation. Artists have expressed their concepts on loneliness through plastic arts, music, conceptual works and relational art. Art as a form of expression has always had an important place for humanity and has provided artists with the opportunity to express themselves in many areas. Loneliness symbolizes a person's focus on their inner world, disconnected from their surroundings, and means isolation from the outside world. When an artist faces loneliness, they transfer and reflect their experiences into their artwork. The concept of loneliness is depicted in the works with dark isolated figures and dark tones.
The purpose of this research is to discuss how the concepts of loneliness and isolation can be transformed and interpreted in social relations and in our lives. It is focused on the fact that we can encounter feelings of loneliness and isolation not only in people but also in places. The reflections of these two concepts in art are discussed. This thesis examines the reflections of loneliness and isolation in art practice, and aims to discover how these issues are addressed by artists and how they connect with the audience. It also aims to understand how art contributes to the understanding of complex emotions such as loneliness and isolation. At the end of the thesis, the research has been concluded with an art study focused on the environment.
