In this study, verbs related to war and struggle used in texts belonging to Orkhon, Old Uyghur and Karakhanid in the Old Turkic period have been identified. The war process has been classified with a comprehensive perspective showing the military, economic, political and social aspects of the war. The war process was divided into six main headings: pre-war period, preparation phase, attack phase, war period, war outcome and post-war period, and each stage of the war was followed through verbs. The verbs that were included were classified under subheadings according to their meanings and the contexts of the texts in which they were used. The meanings and etymologies of the verbs were examined; words with different reading suggestions were shown; their uses related to war were exemplified with text excerpts. The context of the texts was explained by using studies on Turkic history and culture, and information was added about which historical event or narrative the verbs referred to. Due to their role as carriers of the war culture, explanations have been provided in the section headings or verb entries for certain words and concepts.
The classification presented was called the morphology of war, and the parallels in the treatment of the theme of war and struggle in translated and copyrighted works written in different circles were shown. This study aims to show to what extent war, which was a part of life in the Old Turkic society, was reflected in the language, the area covered by war-related vocabulary in Turkic, and the use of war-related vocabulary even in texts that do not contain war narratives.
