Abstract

Astrology is of interest to many people today as it has been throughout history. Interest in astrology may arise not only for reasons such as curiosity, entertainment, chatting, but also for reasons such as uncertainties, risks and security needs brought by the liquid modern society. The responsibilities assumed by individuals in today's society can also lead people to search for a saviour and direct them to astrology interest. The fact that digitalisation is a part of daily life causes the interest in astrology to become digitalised. In this context, astrology can be more involved in the daily lives of individuals as a popular culture product. This study is a research that is curious about how individuals make sense of astrology andhow they experience it in digital environments. In this context, the Co-Star mobile application, which is the most frequently mentioned astrology application in the preliminary interview findings, is analysed with the walkthrough method. In addition, the research aims to explore how individuals who use Co-Star make sense of and experience astrology and Co-Star. Therefore, in-depth interviews were conducted with 16 people using the Co-Star application. The data obtained throughout the study were analysed with an hermenuetic approach to make sense of both the needs that astrology corresponds to in individuals and how the culture industry benefits from these needs. As a result, it has been observed that the Co-Star mobile application constructs a story parallel to the dynamics of the liquid modern society.
