Abstract

This thesis is based on the compilation of plant names in two works, "Edviye-iMüfrede" and "Müntahab-ı Şifa", which had an important place in Ottoman medical literature in the 14th century. The aim of the study is to determine the equivalents of the plant names identified in the Compilation Dictionary and to get an idea of naming plant in that period by examining their morphological and semantic features. The first part of the study defines the terms and analyses of their characteristics. In the second part, the plant names used in Anatolian-Turkish medical texts of the 14th century and the sources of these texts are discussed. In the third part, the plant names identified in the source texts are grouped according to their species, animal names, organ names and color names. According to the way they are grouped, they are divided into sections in the form of noun phrases, adjective phrases and single words. In this section, the compilated words are grouped according to their origin. Finally, the equivalents of these names in the Compilation Dictionary are determined and listed in alphabetical order. In conclusion, this study has the potential to be a source for future studies by revealing the richness and diversity of plant names in the 14th century.
