Özet
This research examines the integration status and motivations for reverse migration to Turkey of highly educated second and third generation Turks born and raised in Germany. The aim of the study is to understand their intentions to return to Turkey and the process that shapes this intention. Designed as a case study, the research was conducted with a qualitative approach. In-depth semi-structured interviews were conducted with 20 highly educated second and third generation Turks living in Germany. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis with the MAXQDA qualitative analysis software. The results of the study show that participants have thoughts of reverse migration depending on their situation, and the factors determining this include their levels of integration (structural, cultural, social, and identity). It was observed that participants have integrated into Germany and feel a sense of belonging to the identity of both countries, which affects their desire to live in both countries. In other words, participants who had a positive approach to the idea of reverse migration believed that they could live in both countries because they had integrated into the country they live in without being assimilated or segregated. Another variable associated with the thought of reverse migration is the economic conditions of the country and individuals. Additionally, it was observed that recent negative social media posts have adversely affected the participants' decisions regarding reverse migration.
