The globalisation of the world increases people's desire to learn foreign languages and
learning a foreign language becomes a necessity. Turkish as a foreign/second language
has a significant place in teaching and learning. Looking at the literature, it is seen that
the desire to learn Turkish is advancing day by day. While learning Turkish as a
foreign/second language, students face many problems. One of the studies needed to
determine the problems that students face while learning a language is needs analysis.
Needs analysis is very important in understanding students' learning deficiencies and
learning motivations. This study aims to identify the problems encountered by
Turkmenistan students’ learning Turkish in Türkiye and to determine their language
needs. The target group of the study comprises undergraduate and graduate students
from Turkmenistan studying in Türkiye. The data collection stage was carried out with
undergraduate and graduate students continuing their education in the 2023-2024
academic year. In this study, which aims to determine the needs of Turkmenistan
national students, mixed method was used. Generally, mixed method is applied to
ascend the reliability and validity of studies. In the quantitative part of the study, a
questionnaire was applied to 100 students on a voluntary basis and semi-structured
interviews were implemented with 15 students in order to increase reliability. The
quantitative data acquired were analysed with the IBM SPSS 23 programme.
Qualitative data were analysed with descriptive and content techniques.
