Özet
In the thesis study entitled “The Effects of the Sea People on the Levant”, the remains and findings belonging to the Sea People in the Levant were examined, and the wealth of the Sea People in the region was investigated.
Based on Egyptian sources, at the end of the 13th century A.D., the movement known as ‘The Sea People’ affected the Eastern Mediterranean in every sense. It is still controversial whether the Egyptians, the geographical ancestor of the Sea People, came from the north or from the sea. The list of authors who have written on this topic include Lukka, Teresh, Danuna/Denyen, Karkisa, Shekelesh, Weshesh, Sherden/Shardana, Ekwesh, Şikil/Tjekker and Palestine /Peleset. In written documents of Syrian origins dated since the Middle Bronze Age, it was determined that some of these people lived in the Eastern Mediterranean as merchants, mercenaries, pirates, looters and immigrants. According to documents of Egypt, Syria and Anatolia origins, the Sea People at the end of the 13th century A.D is understood to not just attack but migrate also with ethics to find and settle in a new territory. Along with different opinions about why they migrated, the view that famine in the period and the collapse of the existing economic system has garnered much support.
It is seen that after the Sea People, migrated trough Şikil/Tjekker, Sherden/Shardana and Palestine/Peleset, they settled in Levant after becoming friendly with the locals living there. The artifacts from these people existed in the Palestinian region. During excavations and research done in the region, ruins and small findings made up of architecture, tombs, ceramics, figurines and seals belonging to the Sea People were discovered. In manner of speaking, relics and findings are important for showing how these People established and influenced the Levant.
