Myths are usually stories full of symbols that describe the origin of the world, the history of the creation of
gods, celestial beings, animals, humans, traditions and customs, and exist in almost all cultures. As a
complex phenomenon, myth has been analysed in different aspects and has been a model for many works
and poems due to its multiple nature. In this thesis, by analysing the motifs and traces of Turkish, Iranian
and Greek mythologies in modern Turkish and Iranian poetry, the appearance and use of these stories and
motifs, as well as how these stories and motifs point to the social, political and cultural conditions of the
period in which the poet lived, will be investigated, and thus mythology, which is a collective consciousness
and imagination, will be connected to the modern age by connecting its stories to the modern age, giving
modern problems, modern people a sense of identity, tradition and history. In the thesis, firstly, the value
of mythology in the history of mankind and how it has affected the philosophy and thought of societies will
be mentioned and its position and importance in literature and how it has taken place in poetry will be
mentioned. The background of the appearance of myths in the poems of Melih Cevdet Anday, one of the
pioneers of including mythology in a wide range of poetry in modern Turkish poetry, and the motifs
originating from myths and myths will be analysed. In addition, the mythical intellectual basis and the
manifestation of mythology in the poems of Nima Yushic, the founder of the new form of Iranian modern
poetry, will be investigated. After analysing the perception of mythic time and nature in the poems of the
two poets, mythic figures will be discussed.
