Abstract

In this thesis, the topics of data visualization, urban data and media architectural interfaces have been studied. In the first chapter, data visualization is defined, its importance and historical background was investigated. Several parameters that define the character of data visualizations were listed. In the second chapter, the necessity of visualizing and sharing urban data in public platforms was highlighted. The role of urban data visualization in public engagement, awareness, social engagement and collaboration was mentioned. In the last chapter, situated urban interfaces and media architectural interfaces, which enhance experimentation of data, in urban and architectural scales, were analyzed. Their importance in creating a new urban and spatial experience, increasing the awareness and engagement of citizens on the local topics was referred. In short, in the literature review, the impact of urban data visualization through media architectural interfaces, on awareness and engagement of the citizens, was investigated. In the light of the literature review, an urban data visualization project was created, and discussed through the scanned resources.
