Özet
The aim of the studies carried out within the scope of this thesis is to increase the quality of the concentrate by depressing the talc, a naturally floatable ore, using an organic depressant. The use of organic depressants in flotation, if it is successful, has the potential to provide benefits both environmentally and economically. Copper-Nickel ore obtained from a mining company (CNI) in Canada was used in the flotation experiments and it is aimed to produce a high grade and better quality copper concentrate by depressing the talc mineral in the ore. CMCs used in the experiments are; Rheolon 30N, Rheolon 300N, Rheoflo TNS 90, Depramin 347N and 8860 GL GCA. In the first stage of the experimental study, kinetic flotation tests were performed without using any depressants as the base condition, and in the second stage, kinetic flotation tests were performed with the above-mentioned five different CMCs at three different dosages and compared with the base condition. As a result of these tests, it was concluded to perform more detailed rougher and scavanger flotation tests with Rheolon 30N, which was used in the plant where the ore was supplied and also showed the best performance among the CMCs studied. As a result of the flotations, using high dosage CMC (350g/t) reduced the concentrate mass from 21.2% to 12.4%, increased the copper grade of the concentrate from 3.4% to 4.6% and increased the nickel grade from 2.4% to 3.1%. However, the final copper and nickel recoveries were lower than base condition which no depressant was used. In order to determine the quality of the concentrate to be produced in the final stage, open circuit cleaning flotation experiments were carried out with the base condition (no depressant) and with Rheolon 30N and Depramin 347N where the best performances were obtained. In the base condition (in the absence of any depresant), copper concentrate with a grade of 32.86% was obtained with a recovery of 46.08%. As a result of the tests performed with Rheolon 30N, a copper concentrate with a grade of 32.70% was obtained with a recovery of 53.54%. In the experiment by using Depramin 347N (350g/t), copper concentrate with a grade of 24.32% was obtained with a recovery of 66.66%. Since the majority of nickel (>60%) remained in the copper circuit, a nickel concentrate could not be obtained. Experiments with depressants have increased the concentrate mass compared to the experiment without depressant usage. Despite the decrease in grade, this increase has led to a higher recovery of Cu metal. As a result, the use of CMC as a depressant has the potential to contribute to obtaining a better quality concentrate by suppressing the talc for this ore. Thus, the utilization of CMC as a depressant for this ore, may provide both environmental and economic benefits for this ore by depressing talc.
