Abstract

At the point of defining nature, the tree was used as a symbol and in this way; meanings have been established through metaphors such as death/life, creation/destruction, destruction/reconstruction. In the first part of the thesis, how the tree shapes perception through these concepts and the social and biological reasons for the creation of these meanings are examined. Within the scope of the paintings produced during the thesis, the transformation of the tree into a wrinkled paper image takes its inspiration from its destruction by cutting. Although cutting down the tree indicates destruction, producing it as paper means reconstruction. The fact that the paper, which has become the object of the industrial society, reinforces the meaning of destruction through the act of crumpling in terms of the form used in the works, by giving the impression of a piece of paper that is about to be thrown away, and the meaning is re-established. The dialectic created by the image of wrinkled paper mentioned in the second chapter is explained by establishing a cause and effect relationship. As it is the subject of painting, which is a means of artistic expression, I revisit the image of wrinkled paper by recirculating it within the framework of the production relation.
