The art of poetry [deyişme], which has its roots in ancient times, is a verbal poetry product that reflects the characteristics of each community. In the poetry [deyişme], it is seen that the cultural, social, political, historical and economic issues of the period, especially daily issues, are discussed. Looking at the resources on the subject, it is witnessed that the tradition was kept alive in the past. While this tradition has weakened in some Turkish communities in our contemporary world, it still maintains its vitality in some Turks. The subject of this doctoral thesis is the historical course of the art of poetry [deyişme], in the Turkic World from past to present. First of all, in order to give a wider perspective to our study, the Turkic World and the studies related to the expression in the world literature, the definition and classification of thepoetry[deyişme]are discussed. Considering that no classification attempt has been applied to the sayings before within the scope of the Turkic World, it has been classified for the first time in terms of thematic and function. In order to make the subject understandable, in the study, poetries [deyişme], were analyzed in terms of form and examined according to syllable measures and verse numbers. In addition, poetries [deyişme] performed by more than one person were evaluated according to the number and gender of the sayings. In the study, the definition of the poems dedim-dedi, which is a different form of sayings, has been made and classified according to their subjects. In addition to the Anatolian area, the characteristics of the examples we can obtain in Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan areas and Uyghur Turks are given in detail by comparing them. Poems in the style of exchange and conversation, known as münazara in Arabic literature and in which human and non-human beings talk, have been examined by dividing into various subtitles according to the situation of the sayings. In addition, commonalities and similarities of poetries [deyişme] in Turkic World have been identified in the study. All texts used during the study were numbered and added to the last part of the thesis.
