Abstract

In this thesis, the existence of Kemalism's hegemony and the founding and implementing elements of this hegemony will be explained by making use of Gramsci's theory of hegemony; Then, the use of Kemalism's hegemony as an element of legitimacy in the September 12, 1980 coup will be conveyed. Thus, within the scope of the thesis, the existence of Kemalism's hegemony will be conveyed and the use of Kemalism's hegemony as a means of ensuring the legitimacy of the coups in the 12 September 1980 coup will be stated and a contribution will be made to the literature in this context. For this purpose, in the first part of the thesis, Gramsci's theory of hegemony will be explained, in the second part, the founding and implementing elements of Kemalism's hegemony will be explained, and in the third part, the use of Kemalism's hegemony in the 12 September 1980 coup and the perception of Kemalism will be stated.In the discussion and conclusion part, the conclusion that Kemalism's hegemony exists in Turkish political history and that it provides the legitimacy of the coups will be conveyed with the narrative specific to the September 12, 1980 coup.
