1960'lar Türkiye Solunda Demokrasi Tartışmaları: Bir Dergi, Bir Parti

Abstract

The 1960s, which opened with the military coup of May 27, 1960 and ended with the military intervention of March 12, 1971, symbolizes change and tension in Turkey in many ways. A new constitution, death sentences, coup attempts, new publications, new parties and new figures came together in Turkey in the 1960s. For this reason, the 1960s hosted both democratic and anti-democratic political developments. On the other hand, leftist movements in Turkey have gained an important political and social position. In this period, the Direction-Revolution Movement and the Workers' Party of Turkey emerged as the two major currents of the Turkish left. These two currents have the same and different characteristics. In the radical environment of Turkey in the 1960s, these two movements have a partnership in terms of being a platform for intellectuals. However, the content of this study consists of the approaches of a party within the parliament and a journal outside the parliament to democracy. How the Direction-Revolution Movement and the Workers' Party of Turkey approached democracy, the reasons and results of these approaches and the legacies they left to the future in this regard make the study holistic.
