Özet
Although work engagement has previously entered foreign literature as one of the precursor subjects of the positive psychology movement, it has yet to receive its rightful place in the Turkish literature of today. On the other hand, the concept of work alienation is known to have an adverse effect on the workers regarding many issues. This study has been made to measure the effect of work engagement and work alienation on the job performances of healthcare professionals. In this context, data obtained from 493 healthcare professionals serving at a public hospital, a university hospital and one private hospital located in the Ankara metropolitan area have been evaluated. As a result of the undertaken analysis, the work engagement and work alienation behaviors of the health professionals working at these healthcare organizations were determined medium, their work performance levels were found to be high. Again, as a result of the regression analysis made within this study, the effect (0.20) of healthcare professionals’ work engagement level on their performance was found positive and meaningful. Whereas the effect (0.16) of work alienation on their performances was determined to be meaningfully negative. In addition to these, it was seen that variables other than gender, marital status, level of education and their service period both in the sector and at the organization and their income level did not show statistically meaningful differences regarding the professionals’ work engagement averages (p<0.05). But their work alienation averages showed meaningful differences in terms of demographical variables to hospital type and administrative positions (p<0.05). Whereas it was seen that the professionals’ performance level averages displayed differences according to their level of education and administrative position (p<0.05). This study which has been made to measure the effects of work engagement and work alienation behaviors which have been contributed to the literature in the field of organizational behavior, to the performance levels of persons working at healthcare organizations, is considered as a significant study which will lead the way for subsequent studies.
