Zafer Gazetesi Penceresinden Demokrat Parti Dönemi'nde Ankara (1950-1960)

Abstract

With the Democrat Party, which was founded in 1946, winning the 14 May 1950 elections, the Single Party government came to an end. The change of political power is also a harbinger of the change to be experienced in many areas in Turkey. The outward and liberal economic policy of the Democrat Party, migration from rural to urban areas and the increasing population of cities are the main determinants of the Democrat Party Period. Reconstruction and construction activities are a useful propaganda area for the Democrat Party. Ankara is the leading actor of the modern urban planning of the Democrat Party in the 1950s and the place where the zoning and construction movements that will spread to other cities of the country started and the city where the works carried out in this field are represented. This study focuses on the change that Ankara went through during the Democrat Party rule. Zafer newspaper, which was published as the spokesperson of the Democrat Party in Ankara from 1949 to the May 27, 1960 coup, draws the boundaries of the study. In the study, Zafer newspaper was examined by taking Ankara as the center. The news, columns, statements of politicians, radio speeches and visuals about Ankara in the newspaper were evaluated. The titles of the study were determined according to the content of this data in the newspaper, and the topics that remained on the agenda by spreading over the years were taken into account in the columns of the newspaper. In each of the chapters, the criticisms of the single-party period in Zafer regarding the relevant issue were also included, and the discussions that started over Ankara between the ruling and opposition parties of the period were also mentioned.
