ALATAŞ D.M., Investigation of the Effects of Goal-Oriented Lifestyle Intervention on Mothers of Children with Cerebral Palsy: A Randomized Controlled Study Hacettepe University Graduate School of Health Sciences Occupational Therapy Program Master Thesis, Ankara, 2023. This study was planned to examine the effects of goal-oriented lifestyle intervention (GOLI) on mental health, physical activity level, sleep quality, occupational performance and satisfaction level, quality of life, caregiver burden in mothers of children with CP. Our study was completed with a mother of 46 children with CP. Mothers were appointed to groups randomized. Telephone calls were made with 22 mothers for 4 weeks, 2 twice a week. GOLI was applied twice a week with 24 mothers for 4 weeks. Mothers of children with CP’s was assessed using mental status Depression, Anxiety, Stress Scale, physical activity level International Physical Activity Questionnaire, sleep quality Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, occupational performance and satisfaction level Canadian Occupational Performance Measure, quality of life Nottingham Health Profile, caregiver burden Zarit Caregiver Burden Scale. The first and last values of, were compared. The level of the child with CP was evaluated according to the gross motor function classification system (GMFSS). As a result, in the GOLI group’s the mental status (p=0,001), physical activity level (p=0,003), sleep quality (p=0,001), occupational performance and satisfaction level (p=0,001, p=0,001), life quality (p=0,001) and caregiver burden (p=0,001) improved. In the control group’s sleep quality (p=0,013), occupational performance (p=0,009), occupational satisfaction (p=0,021), quality of life (p=0,003) and caregiver burden (p=0,011) worsened. No significant difference was found in other parameters. In the light of these findings, further studies with long-term follow-up of GOLI are needed. As a result, it is thought that it would be beneficial to include GOLI, which has a positive effect on mental state, sleep quality, occupational performance and satisfaction level, and quality of life, in interventions for mothers who care for children with CP.
