In the intergenerational solidarity model, the six dimensions developed by Bengtson and Roberts (1991) are listed as structural solidarity, affectual solidarity, associational solidarity, consensual solidarity, functional solidarity and normative solidarity. In this research the correlation between intergenerational normative solidarity of youth in families and other subdimensions of normative solidarity and intergenerational solidarity and the socio-demographical factors was studied. Data used in this study were acquired from 990 young subjects age of whom range between 15 to 29 representing upper class, middle class and lower class socioeconomic levels from Çankaya, Keçiören and Altındağ Districts of Ankara in accordance with criteria suggested by experts from TUIK (Turkish Statistical Instıtute) and with calculations conducted by taking into consideration acquired data. In this study, affectual and normative solidarity score averages of the subjects approximate higher levels. However, consensual, associational and functional solidarity (receiving help from parent/grandparent and helping parent/grandparent) score averages of the subjects are a little higher than the medium level. Intergenerational normative solidarity is positively correlated with affectual solidarity, helping parent/grandparent in functional solidarity, size of the family in structural solidarity, associational solidarity and consensual solidarity. With regard to intergenerational normative solidarity structural solidarity is negatively correlated with geographical distance from parent/grandparent. Intergenerational normative solidarity score averages of the subjects significantly differ in accordance with education levels, number of male and female siblings, family types and education levels of parents/grandparents. While the most significant factor affecting Intergenerational Normative Solidarity is Consensual Solidarity, this is followed by Age, Helping Parent/Grandparent (Functional Solidarity), graduate and post graduate education status of parents/grandparents, number of female siblings, unemployment status, high school graduate status of parents/grandparents, gender being female and number of male siblings respectively.
