Abstract

The burden on the health system is increasing with an aging population and financial costs. Hospitals are undoubtedly the most important part of the health system. Operating rooms are the biggest source of income for hospitals. In addition, operating rooms have an important place in terms of patient satisfaction. For all these reasons, evaluating the performance of operating rooms is critical for hospital managers. There are various studies on operating room performance in the literature. There are different performance metrics used to determine operating room performance. However, there is no consensus on which metric should be used. Accurate determination of operating room performance is important in terms of operating room planning, resource use, patient satisfaction, healthcare employee satisfaction and finances. It is necessary to establish a decision support system that will help hospital managers to evaluate the performance of the operating room. Within the scope of the thesis, the AHP method, which is one of the multi-criteria decision-making techniques, was used to make a choice between different performance metrics. With AHP, different performance metrics are ranked according to the priorities of the managers. In this way, managers have the opportunity to observe the operating room performance by using the most appropriate performance metric for their preferences.
