Common usage of nonlinear loads creates an important power quality problem, called harmonics. Up to recent years, harmonics related problems are tried to be solved by passive filters which have some drawbacks for both compensation performance and reliability. Developing technology in semiconductor area makes it possible to solve harmonics related problem by active switching devices called Active Power Filters (APF), which have superior performance in many aspects over passive filters. This thesis is focused on analysis, design and implementation of voltage source converter based 3 phase 4 wire Parallel Active Power Filter (PAPF) which compensates harmonics and neutral currents caused by harmonics for 3 phase systems with neutral connection. In the scope of this thesis, after the general analysis of system and topologies used in APFs; application issues of PAPFs, reference extraction, control, modulation methods and interface filter design topics are discussed.
