Özet
This study was carried out as a methodological study to establish the Turkish adaptation, validity and reliability of the Parents’ Postoperative Pain Measure Short Form in parents of pediatric patients undergoing outpatient surgery. The study was conducted between December 2020 and December 2021 in Ankara Bilkent City Hospital Children's Hospital Tower Pediatric Surgery Service. The sample consisted of 150 parents of pediatric patients who had outpatient surgery Data were collected using “Pediatric Patient Information Form”, “Parent Information Form”, “The Parents’ Postoperative Pain Measure Short Form”, and “The Faces® Pain Rating Scale Vertical Form”. Language, content, construct, and criterion validity methods were used to establish the validity of the Parents’ Postoperative Pain Measure Short Form. Internal consistency analysis and the split-half method were used to determine the reliability of the scale. The content validity index was calculated for all items and the results showed that all items had an acceptable range. Explanatory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis were performed for construct validity. According to the explanatory factor analysis, Item 5 was removed from the scale because it had an inference value of less than 0.30. The explanatory factor analysis results yielded a two-factor structure with nine items. The confirmatory factor analysis indicated acceptable goodness of fit values. The Faces® Pain Rating Scale Vertical form was used for criterion validity, and the measurement results of the both scales were found to be correlated. According to the internal consistency analysis, the Cronbach's alpha value of the scale was found to be 0.759. In conclusion, the Turkish version of the Parents’ Postoperative Pain Measure Short Form, consisting of 9 items and two sub-dimensions, was accepted as a valid and reliable measurement tool.
