Hemşirelik Öğretim Elemanları ve Öğrencilerinin Elektronik Hasta Kayıtları İle İlgili Görüş ve Deneyimlerinin Belirlenmesi

The research was carried out using a mixed method approach, which includes both quantitative and qualitative patterns, in order to determine the opinions and experiences of nurse educators and students about electronic patient records. The study sample consisted of 133 nurse educators working in three public and three private universities in Ankara, and 366 nursing students enrolled in fall semester of the 2019-2020 Academic Year. Data were collected by the datasheet and semi-structured interview questions designed for individual face-to-face interviews with fourteen educators and fourteen students. Descriptive statistics were used in the analysis of quantitative data and content analysis method was used in the analysis of qualitative data. In the quantitative stage of the research, 91% of the educators and 96.4% of the students stated that they did not take any course or training on electronic patient records, and more than 70% of the participants stated that it would be beneficial to have a course or training about these records in the nursing curriculum. In the qualitative stage of the study, most of the educators and students (n>9) stated that they could not access electronic patient records, their experience was limited to observation, trainings in theoretical-practice environments would be beneficial and arrangements should be made for accessing these data. In the study, it was concluded that both the educators and the students could not access electronic data in the clinical practices, and their experience were limited to observation. In line with these results, it is recommended to expand the content of electronic patient records related courses or contents in the curriculum, develop educational software related to this subject, and make arrangements that will enable educators and students to access electronic health data during clinical practices.
