Candida auris attracts attention as a fungal pathogen that has become widespread worldwide in the last decade, which can cause uncontrollable nosocomial outbreaks. Difficulties of identification in clinical microbiology laboratories have suggested that the frequency may be more than reported. Since it may cause invasive infections in vulnerable patients, and the treatment options are limited due to detection of common high fluconazole resistance rates and observed resistance against different antifungal classes, it has raised additional concerns. As well as cases reported from geographical regions close to our country, in 2019 it was isolated in a patient in Greece and in another patient of Turkish origin in Austria, whose only international travel was to Turkey. These findings suggest that our country cannot be kept off this extraordinary pathogen for a long time and we should be prepared.
