Özet
The conditions, 'the designer whom trying to make effective and successful designs and aiming to alter user`s perception through emotions and imagination
and shaping standards of people, principles of interior design, and questioning who he / she is', faced are the result of the changes in historical process and
world order. At this point, differences and the similarities between his education and experiences on field will become apperant. Besides he / she will realize that his / her freedom and expectations from the field (knowledge on field, applications on field, relations with client) will conflict. Unless this confliction is a way for him / her to avoid facing his / her failures and seeking power over clients, it will create an opportunity and shape the way he / she questions the field and who he / she really is. Since design is a basic mental activity, as for that, the designer will behave sometimes convergent / divergent, sometimes reflective / impulsive, and sometimes field dependent / field independent.
Therefore, examining the term design, designer (particularly in the field Interior Architecture), its identity, its perception, educational process and the difficulties of the profession will be beneficial. So, this thesis aims to answer the question ‘Who is Designer / Interior Architect ? ’ and help the designers whom wandering around this question. In this context, the problem have been defined and the terms design, designer and interior architect, creativitiy, person - environment relations, theoretical approaches for designing have been mentioned in the first chapter. In addition to that, purpose of the thesis have been explained. In the Second Chapter, types, reasons, purposes and historical process of design education for the various necessities for design diciplines, have been examined. Also importance and suffiency of the education for this profession has been questioned.
In the Third Chapter, evolution of the design methods and the place where designer stands have been evaluated. In this context, effects of ongoing
technology, difficulties of creating and finding a new idea have been mentioned. In additon to that, self questioning of designer and his / her approach to the
profession have been placed in this chapter. In addition, genuineness of designer have been discussed. In the Forth Chapter, conception of the proffesion and the identity of designer
have been mentioned and awareness of the terms; Design, Designer and Interior Architect have been questioned. In additon to that, difficulties of the
profession have been discussed with everchanging role of designing and designer. In the Fifth Chapter, results of the conducted questionnaire study and the
interviews with designers who work in the field or academically have been placed. Finally In the Sixth and the last chapter, data gathered from all these
studies and chapters have been evaluated and the question which was the starting point for this thesis tried to be answered one last time.
