Abstract

Local governments have become increasingly important in the historical process. This situation made it necessary to examine local governments in more depth. With the typology studies for local governments, the focus is on comparing the local governments of the countries and revealing their similarities and differences. Within the scope of this thesis, the local government systems of the European Union member countries, typology studies in Europe and Turkey development of local government, the local government reform process and Turkey is also made of a typology analysis can not be taken into context. In this context, interviews were held with the faculty members of universities and experts in local governments. Turkey problem areas of local government as a result of these discussions, findings are available for connection with image and typologies after the reform. Through these findings, Turkey will take after the debate on the reform of local government took place in local government typology studies were carried out. As a result, although local governments in Turkey like most French Napoleonic Model in European local governments typologies has created a unique local government model.
