Özet
Consumer protection is important element of phenomenon of consumption, with production and commerce crossing the borders of country and gaining global quality. Today, to meet requirements, this goes beyond its classical meaning and focuses on product safety prioritizing safety of all products offered to market.
Market surveillance is to check whether technical rules are complied with, whether products are safe or not, by public authority. It is duty of state to ensure safety of all products and to remove unsafe products from market. The aim is that consumers are protected from hazardous products and firms produce safe products.
Aim of study is to reveal position of market surveillance in Turkey and level of knowledge, awareness. Study was attended by 307 consumers over age of 18 in Ankara, data was collected through questionnaire and SPSS was used.

Being aware of meaning of product safety, market surveillance, CE marking and government powers,
It’s thought that shoes and textiles are inspected by Ministry of Commerce, ministry controlling detergent, toys and childcare products is unknown, and that foods are inspected by Ministry of Health,
It’s partially known that GÜBİS, insecure products are announced, and that voluntary recalls by manufacturers of insecure products can be recalled,
In cases of insecurity of textiles, shoes, stationery, furniture, it’s almost unknown that complaint will be made to Ministry of Commerce and Consumer Courts and seller are considered instead ministry, www.tuketici.gov.tr site is partially known, it’s almost unknown that notification was made to ALO 175,
State was not effective in detecting insecurity, that a quarter of those who shared this opinion did not focus on control, and about one-fifth fines and sanctions were not sufficient.
