This study was done to demonstrate the experiences of individuals during their treatment process and their post-discharge needs. This study utilises a descriptive general survey model. 76 individuals who are diagnosed with alcohol and substance abuse who are being treated in the Ankara Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi AMATEM clinic is the sample space of this study. As a method of data acquisition, a survey prepared by the researcher is used. The data gathered from the research are interpreted using some research and the literature about the subject.
The majority subjects of the research are, young single male adults who are heroin addicts. The average age of substance addicts are lower than that of the alcohol addicts. More than half of the participants are out of work (56,6 %), on the other hand 1/5th of them have irregular jobs and most of them live with their parents and family. Participants’ evaluation of treatment clinics facilities and activities and about the treatment staff is positive. The percentage of subjects who evaluate the treatment they get from the clinic is high. The most negative feedback is about the security guards. The number of subjects find the treatment methods either inadequate or improvable is high. Half of the patients have anxiety about life and they’re afraid of normal everyday life outside the clinic. They thing they have to work and get treatment to stay sober. Half of them have no knowledge about the services provided after post-dischargement. Availibility of a regular job, medical care, personal counselling and family counselling are the most needed services. More than half of the participants (59,2 %) think that they’ll use a half-way house type of model if it was available. Most of them think the issues and needs of the addicted individuals are not taken care of enough. They think that the number of treatment clinics are low, the duration of the treatment is short and the treatment methods are inadequate. The number of treatment options should be widened utilizing the succesful international treatment methods and rehabilitation services provided post-discharge and re-entegration services should be improved.
