Distal Radius Uç Kırığında Aşamalı Motor Görselleme Eğitiminin El Fonksiyonuna Etkisinin Araştırılması

The purpose of this study was to investigate of the effectiveness of Graded Motor Imagery (GMI) on hand functionality in patients with Distal Radius Fracture (DRFx). This study was carried out on 36 patients. These patients were randomly assigned to two groups: classic treatment group (n=19) and GMI group (n=17). Both groups received a 8-week (2 days a week) physical therapy and rehabilitation intervention. Outcome was based on upper extremity functional status (DASH, Mayo, Michigan and FIM scores), pain (on the rest and during the activity with Visuel Analog Scale), range of motion (wrist flexion, extansion, ulnar/radial deviasion, supination and pronation with goniometer), grip strength (standart grip strength with hand dynometer; lateral, palmar and pinch strength with pinchmeter). Pain, functionality, range of motion and grip strength were improved for both groups (p<0,05). There was a significiant difference between the GMI group for pain, functionality, range of motion (p<0,05). There were no group differences on grip strength (p>0,05). All outcome measuremets were improved before and after 8 weeks training in all groups. According to these results, Graded Motor Imagery was proposed to be effective on pain control and increasing the functionality of upper extremity. It is important to control pain in the early stage of the DRFx rehabilitation. So we recommend that DRFx rehabilitation protocol should include pain management methods. GMI is appear to provide beneficial effects to control pain and increase upper extremity functionality to the patients with DRFx.
