The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of progressive core stabilization exercise training programme on upper extremity muscle strength, functional activities, flexibility and joint position sense. Fourty two female volleyball players (mean age of 14,50±1,17 years old) were included in this study. All the athletes were divided into two groups as 21 athletes with the mean age of 14,47±1,16 years (Study Group) and 21 athletes, mean age of 14,52±1,20 years (Control Group). Core stabilization exercise training were applied to study group for 8 weeks (3days/week). All the assessments were applied before and after 8 weeks of training for both groups. Isometric muscle strength (J-Tech Commander handheld dynamometer), functional tests (modified push ups, upper extremity closed kinetic chain stabilization, medicine ball throwing), flexibility tests (active internal rotation, horizontal adduction, shoulder internal/external rotation range of motion), joint position sense tests with Laser Pointer Angle Reproduction Test (LP-ART) in 55°- 90°-125° of shoulder flexion and abduction assessments were performed. According to statistical analysis results in groups; shoulder flexion, extansion, abduction, internal/external rotation, elbow flexion and wrist extansion muscle strength were increased after training programme for study group (p<0.05). Shoulder flexion, extansion, abduction, external rotation, elbow flexion and wrist extansion muscle strength were increased after training programme for study group (p<0.05). Functional tests results were found significantly in both groups (p<0.05). All the flexibility tests results improved for study group on the other hand only external rotation range of motion improved for control group (p<0.05). LP-ART results indicated that angle deviation in 55° of shoulder flexion and abduction increased on the other hand 125° of shoulder flexion and abduction decreased for study group (p<0.05). According to statistical analysis results between groups; shoulder extansion muscle strength, modified push ups, upper extremity closed kinetic chain stabilization, medicine ball throwing and active internal rotation test results were improved in study group (p<0.05). There were no differences in LP-ART test results between groups (p>0.05). It may be an efficient approach to use "progressive core stabilization exercises" incorporate in the training programme in volleyball players for increase in upper extremity function.
