Hemşirelerin Duygusal Zeka Becerilerinin Belirlenmesi
Özet
This study was made as a descriptive study to determine emotional intelligence skills of nurses. The sample consisted of 312 nurses working at hospitals with a bed capacity of 100 and above in Ankara province. Data were collected with Introductory Information Form and Baron Emotional Intelligence Scale . The study was performed with nurses as face to face between. 06.20.2012- 08.20.2012. Data were evaluated with Single-way variance analysis, t test, Mann Whitney U test, Kruskal Wallis H test. According to data collected from study; participants scored 332.30±31.30 (87-435) for “total emotional intelligence”, 111.70±12.70 (29-145) for “intrapersonal skills”, 75.00±6.50 (18-90) for “interpersonal skills”, 55.30±6.30 (15-75) for “adaptability scales”, 47.10±6.00 (12-60) for “general mood scales” and 43.10±7.10 (13-65) for “stress management scales. Total and subscale scores of nurses' emotional intelligence is above of average. Total emotional intelligence scores were higher of those who were working as a nurse for ten or more years when compared to those working for five and less years. Total emotional intelligence scores were higher of those who define their business life as successful, of those who think emotional intelligence is improvable, of those who attended to an education program about self improvement, of those who don’t think they need more education about self improvement. Interpersonal skill scores were higher of those who had master’s or a more higher degree when compared to medical vocational school graduates, who work at polyclinic and pediatric service when compared to those who work at emergency service, who are second or latter child of their family when compared to those who are the first child of their family. Nurses who previously attended an educational program about self improvement scored higher in adaptability scales, problem solving and reality scores when compared to those who didn’t. According to these findings, groups with low levels of emotional intelligence are considered as a group to be developed in this area and education and counseling programs should be developed in this direction.
