Within the framework of art, human figure, which at any time is one of the most important subjects, especially as an object of body concept, has been used in the whole art world. 20th century artists see the presence of mystical and occult(hidden) tradition as a source of inspiration for modern images. In the 60s and 70s, publications demonstrated the mystical effect on the works of modern art. When we try to read the historical process through mysterious texture in art, we can see that there is a solid relationship between art, creativity and the body. Throughout history, cultural changes, diversity of religions and philosophical thoughts pushed the flow of art to the desired direction. In the 19th century, the historical atmosphere that unveils the link between art and occultism in european culture, with Paracelsus, Jakob Bohme, Swedenborg and Novalis written, has delayed the determination of the link between art and secrecy, the inability to reach the old mysterious texts and the hidden script. In modernism, the art of mystery, creativity and body-relationship has become an integral part of art. This situation emphasizes the importance of research. After the beginning of the era of modernism, with all the concepts being upset, there has been a change in the meaning of art, especially in the figures of women.
This study, entitled “The Body's Mystery in Creative Experience", investigates the first formation of mysticism and its historical development. It explores the influence of thought on mystery and body relation in historical periods, trying to recognize the mystical paintings at the present time. At the continuation of this study, the body as the art image was chosen as the main theme of the work. In this thesis, in order to make the necessary explanations, firstly mysticism, after that, over the definitions of the conventional patterns the more comprehensive definition have been given importance. As a result of these investigations, expressive, highly textured figurative paintings and mysterious suffering bodies have emerged.
