MEMORY RELATED APPROACHES IN CONTEMPORARY ART IN THE CONTEXT OF FORGETTING AND REMEMBERING Supervisor: Prof. Ayşe Sibel KEDİK Author: Nurcan KAYA ABSTRACT From past to the present the existence of forgetting and remembering in the memory plays a significant role in the formation of induvidual indentity, it also evolved in to forms of aesthetic arty expressions. In this article entitled as “memory realated approaches in the contemporary art, in the context of forgetting and remembering”, forgetting and remembering concepts are discussed primarly withhin conceptual frame; althaung the trouble of forgetting that arises in every era and becomes more evident especially in the modernism and followaing periods, it is emphasized low individol and collective memory has begun to crucial and the effects of the terms of forgetiing and remembering upen the productions of the artists are scrutinized. İn this context, individual based approaches have been questioned in terms of remembering the past.This report which analyze the reflections of individual and collective memory in art, is supported by personal practices and artists’ sample works. As a result of the studies, instead of the dominant perception of the memory, the reflection’s of the individual and collective memory based on the phonomenon of testimony in today’s art have been studied.
