Çocuklarda Hematopoietik Kök Hücre Transplantasyonunda Egzersiz Programının Etkinliğinin Araştırılması
Abstract
The aim of this study is to determine the effectiveness of applied exercise programme during and after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) and, contribute to the implementation of the exercise programmes in this field. 22 children between 3-17 years of age who were decided to HSCT, were divided in two groups as intervention and control group. Children's physical function, functional performance, clinical status, depression, activities of daily life, childrens' and caregivers' quality of life were assessed before HSCT, at the discharge and one month after. The exercise programme consisting of strengthening, endurance, stretching and relaxation exercises were implemented to the intervention group, five days a week, throughout hospitalization and at the discharge they were given home programme. The result of the exercise programme implemented with the physiotherapist during hospitalization, it was found that children's physical function and functional performance increased statistically significant in the intervention group (p<0.05), decreased statistically significantly in the control group (p<0.05). Number of painful day, pain intensity and depression level were found to statistically significantly lower in the intervention group than in the control group (p<0.05). Quality of life scores were statistically significantly higher in the intervention group than in the control group (p<0.05). It was found that caregiver's quality of life was negatively affected by this process. As a result of our study, it was determined that exercise programme have positive effects during HSCT, obtained these effects decreased during the follow-up period with home programme. Exercise programmes implemented with physiotherapist are important for children undergoing HSCT and, after transplantation there is also great need to continue this program in follow-up periods.
