Korkmaz Bas, YT. The Effect of the Connective Tissue Massage on Autonomic Dysfunctions in Stroke Survivors, Hacettepe University, Graduate School of Health Sciences, Master Science Thesis in Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Program, Ankara, 2019. In this study, the effect of the connective tissue massage (CTM) on the hand temperature and autonomic dysfunction symptoms were investigated in stroke survivors with autonomic dysfunction. This study was carried out on 40 stroke survivor and 40 healthy total 80 individuals. Stroke survivors were divided on two groups; control and CTM group. CTM was applied one season each day (15-20 minutes), during ten days. In CTM group, heart rate, blood pressure (systolic and diastolic), respiratory rate, galvanic skin resistance (GSR) (bilateral), hand temperature (bilateral) measurements were taken four times, before the treatment, immediately after the treatment, fifteenth minutes after the treatment and thirtieth minutes after the treatment. The evaluation were repeated on first and the eleventh day to look the cumulative effect in CTM and control groups. Also autonomic dysfunction questionnaire and RRIV measurements were taken on first and the eleventh day for the evaluation of the effect CTM on autonomic functions. At the end of the treatment, while systolic blood pressure were significantly decreased in the measurement of immediately after the CTM in first session, diastolic blood pressure and respiratory rate were not changed significantly. All the same bilateral hand temperature were significantly increased immediately after treatment, however there were no significant changes in fifteenth and thirtieth minutes measurements and cumulative effect. Additionally there were no significant changes on heart rate, GSR, RRIV values. While thermal dysfunction, sphincter dysfunction and gastroparesis symptoms which examined in autonomic dysfunction questionnaire were significantly improved, orthostatic symptoms and skin changes were not change significantly. Besides of these GSR values of heathy participants were aseessed to determine the norm value. In the light of this results, CTM may take place in the patient‟s physiotherapy and rehabilitation programs because of reducing the some autonomic dysfunction symptoms of stroke survivors.
