Hacettepe Üniversitesi Hastaneleri Kan Bankası Aferez Ünitesi'nde Gerçekleştirilen Tedavi Amaçlı Aferez İşlemlerinin Değerlendirilmesi
Özet
Apheresis is the process of separation and collection of blood components. A study was carried out to evaluate the safety and efficacy of therapeutic apheresis procedures performed in Hacettepe University Hospitals Blood Bank Apheresis Unit, to document complications and possible predisposing conditions and to make suggestions to ameliorate therapeutic apheresis procedures. Therapeutic apheresis procedures carried out between January 1999 and January 2002 were retrospectively analysed. During this period, 221 procedures of therapeutic apheresis was performed on 20 female (40%) and 30 male (60%) patients (mean age 41.7±19.4). Of these, 143 (65%) were plasma exchange, 47 (21%) leukapheresis, 18 (8%) thrombocytapheresis, 8 (4%) peripheral stem cell collection and 5 (2%) erythrocyte exchange procedures. Plasma exchange was successful in 49%, leukapheresis in 26%, and thrombapheresis in 66% of patients. Peripheral stem cell collections were successful in 80% and erythrocyte exchanges were successful in all patients. Complications occurred in 14% of all procedures and 34% of patients, the majority being in plasma exchanges. Catheter-related complications (20%) and hypotension (17%) were the most common complications. The most severe complication was cardiac arrest during plasma exchange in a patient with thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura.
