Erişkin Ataksi Hastalarında Lokal Vibrasyon ve Tüm Vücut Vibrasyon Uygulamalarının Postüral Kontrol Üzerine Akut Etkilerinin İncelenmesi
Özet
This study was designed as a single-blind, randomized and cross-over study to investigate and compare the acute effects of local vibration (LV) and whole-body vibration (WBV) applications on postural control in adult patients with ataxia. Twenty-one ataxia patients with a mean age of 39.43 ± 9.67 years were included in the study. Between the applications, one week wash-out period was given and both local and whole-body vibrations were applied to each patient. The application order was decided by coin toss randomization method. Performance-based balances (Mini-BESTest), trunk controls (Trunk Impairment Scale), limits of stability and postural sways (Bertec Balance Check ScreenerTM), gait time-distance parameters (GAITRite), functional mobility skills (Timed Up and Go Test), walking performances (10 Meter Walking Test) and static balances (One Leg Stance Test) of the patients were evaluated 3 times before application and 60 seconds and 60 minutes after application. As a result of the study, it was found that LV application increased the left limits of stability more than TVV application at 60th and 60th minutes after the application (p ˂ 0.05). Stability limits stability score were found to increase the at the 60th post-application period, while LV application increased while TVV application decreased (p˂0.05). In addition, it was found that LV application increased the right and left step width at 60th post-application, while TVV application decreased (p ˂ 0.05). As a result, local vibration and whole-body vibration applications can improve the different parameters of postural control acutely. The results of our study showed that effective vibration application, which was selected individually for adult patients with ataxia in line with rehabilitation goals, could be used as a complementary modality in the rehabilitation processes of the patients. In this context, the results of our study will contribute to the patient's access to the ideal treatment program because of the effectiveness of alternative treatment options in the ataxia group in need of chronic and long-term rehabilitation.
