Abstract

This study focuses on the military preparations made for the freeing of İstanbul, Turkish Straits, Mosul from the Entente occupation should the talks held in Lausanne ever come to a halt. The study is based on the primary archive material as well as relevant literature. Present study aims at scrutinizing the reflections of the Lausanne Conference on the military preparations held to display the Turkish determination against any possibility of a war that would arise as an outcome of the talks held. It is evident that Turkey did not assume a submissive attitude in undertaking military preparations, concentrating and deploying its forces in due manner against any possibility of ceasing of the talks. It was aimed that the military activities being undertaken would have a strong propaganda effect on the Ententes at the conference and compel their perceptions. Moreover, these preparations curbed the tension the advocates of war would create at the parliament. It is also clearly evident that the diplomatic means were used to the end as no direct military action was taken when the talks come to a brief deadlock.
