Abstract

The concept of violence which include emotional and psychological pressures as well as physical kept its place in human life throughout the history. The phenomenon of violence is seen to operate mostly on women when considering the social life from the past to the present. Woman who are evaluated in different ways according to the social rules, moral understanding and religious belief of each period, also has taken its place in different ways in art history and woman image has been in continuous conversion. Woman who seen sometimes as an angel, sometimes as a devil, sometimes as a goddess, sometimes as an object of consumption is reflected in various ways also in art.

In this thesis, which is carried out under the title “The Image of Women in Plastic Arts” has been questioned the place of women in society and art throughout history. In this context, from the past to the present, the place of women in society and art is visually and in writing dealt and examined. In order to support the issue, with emphasis on how the subject is handled by thinkers and especially artists have been given several examples of their works.

Related to the main theme of this thesis which is the concept of violence against women was made a series of application work and and subject dealt and examined formal and intellectual through studies experiencing in different ways.
