The recent developments in information technologies has led to the preservation of
historical monuments and transferring them to future generations one of the important
tasks for humanity. Advances in 3D modelling methods has also expanded parallel with
the technological developments. 3D city modeling and smart city studies dramatically
increased and attract the attention of researchers. Modeling studies in this area are
widely used in urban planning, historical building modeling and similar applications.
3D modeling is becoming more important each year, and researchers still working on
modeling cities in higher level of detail. Upgrading and defining buildings details is a
necessary work in 3D modeling studies. There are various processing methods for
defining these details and attributes to perform 3D queries. User-oriented 3D queries
and analysis processes on web is becoming popular and gaining importance.
One of the important tourism center of Turkey is Tacettin Sultan Mosque in Ankara.
Tacettin Mosque and its surrounding area has been choosen as study area of this thesis.
Attribute information added to the mosque and surrounding buildings, then published
on web with different query options. A couple of different software solutions such as
NetCAD, AutoCAD, 3Ds Max, ArcGIS and Esri CityEngine has been used in this
iv
study. Generated model stored as geodatabase that allows queries on model. The final
output of 3D city model is published on web with ArcGIS online.
As the result of study, attribute and location information of 2D data can be transferred
to generated 3D building models. The applications of 3D city models can be used for
different research purposes from various disciplines, and the produced informations can
be applied to different research areas.
