Factors in the initial period of stuttering and especially their parents' attitudes of individuals who stutter have great importance in terms of life-long effects of stuttering on the individual. This study was planned the aim to investigate the relationship between perceived parental attitudes and stuttering. With this purpose, 40 subjects who stutter 18 years old (20 female, 20 male) for study group and 40 subjects who do not stutter over 18 years old (20 female, 20 male) for control group were included at Hacettepe University Audiology and Speech Pathology. To assess stutter individuals, audio and video recording were made with the digital video camera and to assess how they perceive their stuttering severity the VAS (Visual Analog Scale) was applied and then, Parental Acceptance-Rejection Questionnaire Adult Form (Adult PARQ / K) was applied to all the participants. It was found that there was a significant difference between individuals with stuttering and individuals without stuttering in terms of the total parental acceptance-rejection score perceived from their mother (t = 5.584, p <.001). In addition, İt was found that there was a significant difference between individuals with who do and do not stutter in terms of the total parental acceptance-rejection score perceived by their father (t = 5.533, p <.01). It was not shown a significant difference between genders in terms of the participants perceived parental acceptance-rejection perception total and subscale scores obtained. It was concluded that parental acceptance-rejection perception have a negative impact on the stuttering.
