Şaşılıkta Botulinum Toksin A Enjeksiyonunun Etkisi
Özet
In this study, demographic and clinical features of patients, amount of deviation reduction and factors associated with success were evaluated. Clinical records of 630 strabismus patients who were performed Botulinum toxin A (BTA) injection were analyzed retrospectively. Patients who were used the same brand of BTA, who have sufficient follow ? up time and data were included. Demographic and clinical parameters, initial and final amount of deviation, binocularity, ratio of deviation reduction, ratio of success and factors associated with success were evaluated. Acording to the angle of deviation on the final examination, 0 ? 10 prism diopter (PD) is defined as complete success, 10 ? 20 PD is defined as cosmetically successful and deviation greater than 20 PD is defined as unsuccessful. There were 131 patients, 70 of them were male and 61 of them were female. The mean age was 29.1 ± 17.5 years. Diagnosis was esotropia in 47 (% 35.8), ekzotropia in 53 (% 40.5) and sixth nerve palsy in 31 (% 23.7) of patients. Mean amount of deviation reduction was 15.1 PD and mean ratio of deviation reduction was % 43.1. In % 29.8 of patients complete success, in % 29.8 of patients cosmetical success and in % 40.5 of patients unsuccessful outcome was achieved. Acording to the initial angle of deviation; complete success rate was % 40.5 in small angle of deviation group (? 20 PD), % 28.2 in medium angle of deviation group (20 ? 50 PD) and % 7.1 in large angle of deviation group (> 50 PD) (p < 0.001). BTA treatment was found more successful in small angle of deviation group. Deviation reduction and complete success rate was found higher in sixth nerve palsy group compared with concomitant strabismus groups (p = 0.01) and was similar in esotropia and exotropia patients (p = 0.35). Acquired vertical deviation was detected in % 13 and ptosis was detected in % 3.8 of patients. Fusion potential, number of injection and visual acuity was not found associated with deviation reduction and complete success rate.
