Ahmed Vefik Paşa'nın Lehce-i Osmânî Adlı Sözlüğünün 1876 ve 1889 Tarihli Baskıları Üzerine Sözlük Bilimsel Bir Değerlendirme

Abstract

In this thesis which consists of three parts, the first Turkish to Turkish dictionary’s, Lehce-i Osmânî, two editions have been examined. First, dictionaries have been examined using modern lexicography’s perspectives; second, vocabulary of the dictionaries have been introduced; and lastly, by comparing up to date works with aforementioned dictionaries, Ahmed Vefik Pasha’s understanding of lexicography have been attempted to be clarified. In this manner, West’s lexicographical examination criterion have been used and adapted to Lehce-i Osmânî’s properties; therefore a spesific method to choose the headwords have been developed. These methods and the necessary methodological framework have been presented in the First Chapter of this thesis, and in Second Chapter, two editions of the dictionary have been compared and analyzed; lastly, in Third Chapter, acquired data from first two chapters have been evaluated. As results, Lehce-i Osmânî’s first edition, which have focused on XIX. century Ottoman Turkish lexical inventory and the second edition of Lehce-i Osmânî have been found to be written with same apprehension; and the second volume have been identified as a distinct Arabic-Persian to Turkish dictionary.
